progress

I started the year off with a cold, and when I'm sick I mostly focus on getting myself well again. I haven't been consciously limiting food, though I have been drinking orange juice. Today I managed to go to the gym, despite the fact that I had to rest after just *dressing* for the gym. It was good. I did 10 minutes on the ellipsis machine, lateral pulldown, chest flies, abs, and lots of stretching. I didn't really do much, but I was there for 25 or 30 minutes. I was moving r e a l l y slowly. By taking short breaks during the day, I've managed to do some laundry, feed the birds, and vacuum the living room furniture. Hmm. I thought I had done much more. I've also been on the computer a good bit, playing at making my syllabi for next week. I discovered a blogspot called The Valve, which is all about literature and academics. I read Kipling's "The Man Who Would Be King." I need to photocopy it and place it on reserve. There are web versions but this one has helpful footnotes. I've been watching the birds a good bit. They're fairly active today. There were goldfinch on the niger seed bag, and yesterday a house finch was at the back feeder. I also saw a downy (hairy?) woodpecker. The key difference between them is size, but I'm terrible at judging that. They also have different calls, but he wasn't talking. I haven't had the TV on at all today. I got sucked in yesterday. I watched Friends on DVD, and Love Actually on HBO. I hadn't seen the latter since it was in theatres. It was just as romantic and happy as I remembered, and I had to call J and give him a virtual hug. There's a chance someone might make an offer on his house today, but since he hasn't called me I guess he hasn't heard anything.
