Living in our cabin reminds me of living in a giant hollowed-out tree on the side of a mountain. There is wood everywhere. It's my bourgeouis version of Lothlorien. Today we went to the Blue Ridge Lake and walked along one of the trails. We had lunch downtown and bought some truffles. We've been playing Arkham Horror this week. We'll finish our second game today. I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Yesterday I finished reading Marilynne Robinson's Gilead, which I found to be quite good, very moving. It isn't as well written as the Julian Barnes book. I had trouble believing in the voice of the narrator for a long time. It sounded far too feminine and modern, far too few adjectives for a narrator born in the 19th century in the wildnerness of Kansas. But I got past this, and by the end of the book I think the style improved. It touches on religion, families, and our country's history of slavery and racism. I liked it and recommend it. My one caveat is that it made me think a lot about death, so it isnt a good book for someone who is grieving. Or for someone on a honeymoon.
