Earlier this summer I made my first visit to the Knoxville Museum of Art. Their second-floor exhibit was "Vision, Language, and Influence: Photographs of the South by Baldwin Lee, Walker Evans, and Eudora Welty." I was overwhelmed by these photos. Some were taken early in the century and some in the 80s, and yet the images remained similar. The forces of poverty and race really hit me. I didn't notice how tense the exhibit made me until I went to the 3rd floor and my muscles noticeably relaxed around traditional landscapes and portraits.
