Last weekend was fall break. Most of my students took the extra 2 days to go home and rest. My husband and I, on the other hand, went to Pawleys Island, SC. It's an amazingly beautiful spot and has one of my favorite parks ever, Huntington Beach State Park. They have a causeway where one side is saltwater marsh and the other side is a freshwater pond. I could sit at that spot for days. Our hotel, the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort, was right on the ocean (that's our hotel on the front page). We could see the water a little bit from our first-floor balcony. The beach was mostly empty but the water was still pretty warm. I especially enjoyed going out to the ocean at night and watching the waves. Our hotel also had indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs and an outdoor lazy river that J. and I really enjoyed. They also had a guest lobby that reminded me of one of those drawing rooms on the Titanic--not in ritziness, just in the idea that you'd need a place to go apart from your room with comfortable sofas and tables. Our room was great, too. It had a full kitchen, including oven and fridge.
On the downside, I'm now exhausted and I'm behind on work. I'm trying to find some ways to reduce my commitments.
