false expectations
May. 2nd, 2012 09:21 amHere's another article linked from Facebook. It's a Cracked.com post about how movies like The Karate Kid have given us false expectations of how easy something should be. You work really hard for a month and expect the book to be written, the weight to be gone, the house to be fixed, etc. I definitely suffer from this problem. The tempo of academia actually encourages it. It's much harder to commit to life change over a long period.
