wedding work
May. 31st, 2006 11:08 pmWe have a ring! Or at least, a diamond. It's a 1/2 carat pear, F, S1 but I can't find the carbon spots with the loupe. The cut is good. The price is reasonable. Hurray! We're having some problems with the band. The salesguy at Jareds is going to email the distributor to see if we can get what I want. Just something simple, really, that shows off the lovely diamond.
We went to Markmans first today, and they irritated me. We asked to get the number of the diamonds written down to go so we could leave, and they gave us two more people to talk to. I distrust anyone who wants me to commit *today*.
We then went to check out Southern Graces, a catering service and banquet hall. Miraculously, they were open and we were able to talk to someone (Bob) without an appointment. The facility is much more beautiful than I had imagined. Unfortunately, they're moving. They couldn't come to a deal with the landlord. It *might* be possible to rent the facility in May for the day, but it's impossible to tell right now. Bob gave us a card for their event planner. While I'm less interested in SG without their building (as the sites are my priority right now), he suggested that Paisley might know some interesting sites. So that's an option.
Today I talked to Mandy at Rothchild catering, which also has a facility. She emailed me some information, and I think they might work. We have to see the place first, and taste their cake! The cake is included with the wedding reception price. We get use of the room and the cake and afternoon snacks for $14/person, which is really quite good. That may change with add-ons, or if we need to have a separate ceremony room. I liked the practicality of Matt and Kristin's wedding, where it was all one room, so we're hoping to do something similar. Rothchild has a new outdoor place, but that takes an extra fee, so I don't know.
I forgot I haven't told you about Cove Lake. It's quite beautiful. I'll try to post some pictures later. A few problems: (1) 30 miles away, (2) bathrooms are public and therefore dirty, (3) no place to change other than bathroom, and (4) it only seats 100, when it looks like we're inviting around 140.
