What a wonderful day I've had. J suggested we go to the lake and read, so I packed my bag and we got to Admiral Farragut Park a little after 1. He said he wanted to walk the trail that connected it to the next park. It's a great trail with several places to sit by the water. The first two good spots had people in them. The third was empty. There was a bench and I headed for it but he said no, let's go down by the water. He took off my backpack and helped me down. Then he turned me to look at him and held my hands and looked into my eyes. He said he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his days with me. He stopped at one point and said, "I'm at a loss for words." Then he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had a plain gold band as a placeholder for my real engagement ring. He slipped it on my finger as I smiled broadly and said yes. I wanted to jump up and down and squeal and call everyone I knew, but it seemed a solemn moment so I refrained. I was totally surprised he did it. I've been waiting for him to ask for a while, but I wasn't sure when he would do it.
Hee hee. I'm engaged to the most wonderful man in the whole world. :)
No, we don't have a date yet. Or know where it will be. We spent some time today shopping for rings and I learned a lot. I thought I cared more about the setting than the diamond, but when I saw this one diamond I felt all tingly. It was so clear and sparkly. Truly amazing. The setting was utterly plain. So now I'm starting to understand. So much to learn!
