categorizing
Jun. 25th, 2008 12:56 amI've created two new mental sets of categories that I'm trying out. The first occurs mostly in driving: mean, not right, right, and nice. Someone yields to you when they're supposed to, it's right. Someone yields to you when they don't have to, that's nice. Someone doesn't yield, that's not right. Someone cuts you off, that's mean. (I am obviously spending far too much time in the car.)
The other set is a binary that I often confuse with each other: opportunity and temptation. There are a million things I want to do, all at once. I tend to think I should do them when the opportunity arises. Hence, taking Latin this summer. But now I am starting to think that even if an opportunity arises for a side interest, at times it isn't so much an opportunity as a temptation. A distraction. Something that will derail me. I finally decided that's what Latin was for me. Now when a chance for something comes up, I try to ask, is this an opportunity or a temptation?
