On my third try, I finally found a Brown-headed Nuthatch this morning at Concord Park. Hurrah! First I listened a couple of times to a tape of its song and calls, then went around the park and listened. I heard sounds that could match at a couple of places, but I only found the bird in one spot. It was walking head-first down a pine tree.
Also at the park I saw a nesting pair of Muscovy Ducks, about 65 Canada Geese in a feeding flock, around 2 dozen Mallards, and lots of European Starlings. I did not see any activity around the 2 starling nests I discovered on my last visit. I did see several juvenile starlings. I watched a singing Chipping Sparrow for a while. I watched some swallows fly. Some were definitely Cliff Swallows (from the squareness of the tail and the generally beige underside), but others I wasn't sure of. There was a GBH in the usual spot near the boat dock. I found no Great-crested Flycatcher, alas, but I did see a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
