Last week I started a 30-day trial membership at KoKo Fit for $30. Their regular memberships are much, much more than that. I think the cost is totally unfair, because I feel like this is something that could work for me. I could work out more often and it would help my depression. But being broke all the time would exacerbate my depression. Ugh!

The way KoKo works. You're supposed to do 4-6 cardio sets per week. Each one is 15 minutes. I know what you're thinking--what's 15 minutes? But it's interval training and it really pushes you. I got my heart rate up to 135 last time, and that hasn't happened in a while. As you're on the elliptical or treadmill, you listen to an mp3 from the main trainer guy, who you can hear working with you. He tells you what to do, encourages you, reminds you of correct form, tells you interesting research. On yesterday's tape he mentioned in passing that an incline of 6% is more like hiking, and that's when I realized why hiking is so very hard.

After the cardio (or before, if you warmed up some other way), you use the SmartTrainer. You plug in your thumb drive and the computer tells you what exercises to do, how to adjust the machine, what weight to use, how many reps, and gives you tips on form. It takes all the guess work out of it, and I already feel myself getting stronger after just 4 sessions.

Did I mention you also get a web page? You get a web page. I've lifted a total of 18,812 lbs and burned 889 calories.

I guess you could say I'm a fan. But maybe next week it will get old, and then I won't be sad it's so expensive? (It's about $100/month.)
